The flagship cryptocurrency's price could reach $156,000 by May 2025, according to an analyst's prediction based on historical BTC price movements following halving events.

On the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), the popular pseudonymous cryptocurrency analyst Cryptorphic pointed out that Bitcoin has never experienced a price correction in the year following a halving, emphasizing the importance of these events.

A Bitcoin halving reduces the reward miners receive for each block by half, cutting the new supply entering the market. The analysis showed a strong trend: after the first halving in 2012, Bitcoin’s price soared by 8,300%, the second halving in 2016 saw a 288% increase, and the 2020 halving led to a 540% surge within a year. The most recent halving was in April of this year.

Considering these patterns, the analyst suggested that Bitcoin's price could increase by 127% from its halving level, reaching between $115,000 and $156,000. The analysis also noted current short-term volatility, with Bitcoin trading below its peak after a recent decline. However, Cryptorphic highlighted a technical indicator known as the “inverse head and shoulders” pattern, which suggests a potential price breakout soon.

An inverse head and shoulders pattern occurs when an asset's price falls and rises three times, forming a lower "head" between two higher lows, or "shoulders," typically signaling a shift from a bearish to a bullish trend.

This prediction follows significant cryptocurrency investment product inflows, totaling over $1.05 billion in the past week, with Bitcoin products seeing $1.012 billion and Ethereum-focused products $35.5 million. Meanwhile, products shorting Bitcoin saw outflows of $4.3 million. These movements occurred after the SEC approved major stock exchange applications to list spot Ether ETFs, expected to start trading later this year.

The SEC’s approval represents a notable change, as the agency has been cautious about cryptocurrency, previously debating whether to classify Ethereum as a commodity or security.
