Base, Coinbase's Layer 2 blockchain, kicks off its second rendition of Onchain Summer, aiming to attract developers to onboard users onto the blockchain.

To mark the occasion, Base plans to host an online hackathon from June 3rd to July 3rd, offering rewards totaling 200 ETH, valued at $613,200, for the winners.

Throughout the summer, over 600 ETH, valued at $2 million, will be distributed for creative initiatives, including prizes, grants, and gas credits.

Base launched its mainnet in August 2023 in conjunction with Optimism's OP stack and has since become one of the most sought-after Layer 2 solutions. According to L2Beat, it boasts a $5.52 billion Total Value Locked (TVL) and a 14.18% market share.

During Onchain Summer, Base recorded over 700,000 mints from over 268,000 unique wallets and secured partnerships with Coca-Cola, FWB, Parallel, and others.

NodeMonkes has emerged as the most valuable Bitcoin NFT with a market cap of $3,979 BTC, equivalent to $246 million, and a minimum price of $24,603.

Bitcoin Puppets, another Bitcoin NFT, has surpassed NodeMonkes in trading volume, boasting a market cap of 3,230 BTC or $199 million, with a daily selling price of 0.31 BTC, equivalent to $19,200.

Unclassified Ordinals are experiencing record-breaking sales volumes, surpassing $4 million in daily sales. On the flip side, FriendTech's debut has been met with criticism, with its price plummeting by 80%.

In another development, Roger Ver, a prominent figure in the Bitcoin community, faces tax evasion charges from the US Department of Justice for allegedly failing to pay $50 million in taxes.
