In response to a recent security scare, Binance, one of the world's leading cryptocurrency exchanges, has issued a public service announcement to caution its extensive user base.

On June 3, Wu Blockchain reported that some Binance user accounts might have been compromised due to the download of a Google plugin promoted by Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs). According to the report, a Chinese user fell victim to this scheme, resulting in the theft of $1 million through cross-trading on May 24. Hackers managed to bypass password and two-factor authentication (2FA) verification by hijacking cookies, thereby gaining unauthorized access to the victim’s Binance account.

Binance has assured its users that its platform remains secure and has not experienced any breaches. Nevertheless, the exchange is urging the community to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their accounts. As a safety measure, Binance advises against installing browser plugins, as some can be malicious and steal user data, compromising account security.

To enhance security, Binance recommends several steps for users:

1. Use Official Resources: Only install the official Binance App or use a clean web browser without third-party plugins to access the official Binance website. Always log out after using the website.

2. Password Management: Choose a strong, unique password and update it regularly. Never share your password with anyone.

3. Device Protection: Protect devices with the latest antivirus software and only install apps and programs from trusted, official sources.

4. Beware of Scammers: Be cautious of anyone claiming to be a Binance employee. Scammers often impersonate Binance staff to deceive users and steal their funds.

5. Enable Withdrawal Address Whitelist: This feature ensures that withdrawals can only be made to verified addresses, adding an extra layer of security.

6. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and Anti-Phishing Code: Enable 2FA and set up an anti-phishing code. This ensures that all genuine emails from Binance will display your unique anti-phishing code, helping to verify their authenticity.
