Giant crypto exchange Binance has announced that it is discontinuing support for Bitcoin NFTs, a decision coming less than a year after their introduction to the marketplace.

Binance's statement, shared in a recent blog post, outlines that as of April 10, they will no longer facilitate airdrops, benefits, or utilities related to Bitcoin NFTs. This initiative is part of their ongoing efforts to streamline their NFT offerings.

Effective 6 a.m. UTC on April 18, Binance will halt support for trading and deposits of Bitcoin NFTs. This means that users will lose the ability to purchase, bid on, or list NFTs on the platform, and all existing orders will be canceled at that time. Binance is urging users to withdraw their Bitcoin NFTs by 12 a.m. UTC on May 18 to avoid any disruptions.

Specifically addressing Runestone NFTs based on Bitcoin, Binance noted that users meeting the criteria for the recent Runestone airdrop had already received their NFTs by April 4. However, they are advising users to withdraw these tokens by April 10 to ensure they can still claim any associated tokens, utilities, or benefits. During this period, trading of Runestone NFTs will not be supported.

Binance had integrated Bitcoin as the fourth blockchain into its NFT marketplace back in June 2023, but this support is now being terminated less than a year later.

Despite the decision by Binance, interest in Bitcoin Ordinals NFTs has been on the rise, evident in the NodeMonkes collection where floor prices surged over 50% last month, surpassing the market capitalization of the Bored Ape Yacht Club.
