Binance, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange, has recently incorporated Bitcoin ARC-20 atomical assets into its proprietary Web3 wallet via the Inscriptions Marketplace. This integration marks a significant development in the crypto space, as ARC-20 tokens enable the creation of fungible tokens that can be stored and transferred on the Bitcoin blockchain. To commemorate this milestone, Binance is offering zero-fee trading on ARC-20 tokens until June 2, 2024.

Introduced in January, the Atomicals protocol, inspired by Ethereum's ERC-20 standard, facilitates the minting, transfer, and modification of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Bitcoin blockchain. Atomicals highlighted the efficiency of its protocol, emphasizing that even after multiple updates or transfers, the data size remains minimal, ensuring swift verification by clients, wallets, marketplaces, games, and services.

Bitcoin Atomicals boast a diverse range of applications beyond NFTs, including web hosting, file storage, atomic swaps, tokenization of real-world assets, decentralized social media, and more. In addition to Atomicals, Binance Wallet's recent update includes support for BEVM, a decentralized Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible Bitcoin layer 2 solution based on Taproot, utilizing Bitcoin as gas fees for executing smart contracts.

This strategic move by Binance aligns with the broader trend of exchanges embracing ARC-20 assets. In February, Bitget announced the integration of Bitcoin Atomicals into its native self-custody wallet, while OKX launched a dedicated marketplace for Bitcoin Atomical assets.

Despite concerns about potential technological obsolescence amidst the proliferation of smart contract blockchains like Ethereum and Solana, Bitcoin has demonstrated its adaptability by introducing innovative solutions such as Ordinals, Inscriptions, Runes, and Atomicals within the past year. Notably, Orders Exchange recently integrated the Bitcoin Runes protocol, enabling the issuance of fungible tokens on the Bitcoin network and establishing a Bitcoin asset bridge with MicroVisionChain for BRC-20 token swaps.

Meanwhile, the omnichain yield-generating protocol SolvBTC has garnered significant traction, accumulating a total value locked of $700 million from yield-bearing Bitcoin minted on Arbitrum, Merlin, and BNB Smart Chain. The protocol anticipates annual returns of 5% to 10% on users' BTC deposits, further enhancing the utility and attractiveness of Bitcoin-based DeFi solutions.
