Bitcoin developer Burak, known for exposing a vulnerability in the Lightning Network, has introduced a new layer 2 solution called "Brollups." Brollups aims to bring more decentralized finance (DeFi) use cases to the Bitcoin network without the need for a hard fork or a proprietary token.

Brollups is a Bitcoin-native rollup design that bundles transactions without requiring changes to Bitcoin's core consensus code. Burak envisions Brollups supporting over 90% of DeFi use cases, from NFT sales to token orders on decentralized exchanges, all executed and verified on the Bitcoin Virtual Machine.

Unlike some existing layer 2 solutions, Brollups will be managed by "operators" who provide liquidity and advance the rollup state, rather than relying on a centralized authority or a new token. This approach aligns with Burak's goal of deeply integrating Brollups into the Bitcoin ecosystem .

Burak's previous work, including the Lightning Network exploit that triggered an emergency update in 2022, has made him a notable figure in the Bitcoin community.
