Hut 8 Corp., a prominent Bitcoin mining company, has announced a significant $150 million investment from tech-focused investment manager Coatue Management, led by billionaire Philippe Laffont. This move underscores the increasing convergence of cryptocurrency mining and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, as investors capitalize on the burgeoning AI market.

On June 24, Hut 8 disclosed the substantial investment from Coatue Management, which will be made through a convertible note. The note will yield an 8% annual payout over an initial term of five years, with Hut 8 retaining the option to extend the note for up to three additional one-year periods. This investment is a senior unsecured obligation of Coatue Management, emphasizing its commitment to Hut 8's growth prospects.

Laffont expressed confidence in Hut 8’s strategic position to expand its compute capacity and leverage emerging opportunities in the AI sector. "We are committed to supporting innovators advancing AI and believe that compute capacity is crucial to unlocking significant growth across the ecosystem," Laffont stated.

The transaction is expected to be completed on or before July 11, following Hut 8’s filing of the investment agreement with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on June 21.
