Experienced trader Peter Brandt recently made a bold forecast regarding Bitcoin's price, suggesting that the decentralized cryptocurrency could surge to the equivalent of 100 ounces of gold per BTC.

Brandt anticipates that the ratio between gold and Bitcoin will undergo fluctuations over the next 12–18 months before eventually climbing to unprecedented levels, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing evolution of the digital currency market.

While Brandt's projection may appear ambitious, a retrospective analysis of the price trajectories of Bitcoin and gold provides context to his prediction. Historically, Bitcoin has demonstrated a tendency to outperform gold, with notable instances of surpassing the precious metal's value.

The culmination of Bitcoin's ascent above gold occurred in 2017 when Bitcoin soared to a peak of $19,649 on December 17th. During this period, gold was trading at approximately $1,264 per ounce, requiring around 15.5 ounces of gold to purchase 1 BTC.

Even during challenging market conditions, such as the 2018–2019 bear market, Bitcoin managed to maintain its superiority over gold. While Bitcoin experienced significant declines, dropping to around $3,126 in December 2018, gold's price remained comparatively stable.

Subsequent years witnessed both assets navigating through volatile market conditions, with intermittent spikes and downturns. In August 2020, amid global economic uncertainty triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, gold reached a historic peak of around $2,075 per ounce, while Bitcoin maintained levels around $12,341.

Fast forward to May 2024, and gold has once again reached an all-time high, trading at approximately $2,320 per ounce, while Bitcoin surged to $74,000 before retracing to $67,210. Based on current market prices, it would take roughly 29 ounces of gold to acquire 1 BTC.
