As the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requests amendments to spot Ethereum Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) applications, prominent Bloomberg analysts are now envisioning a 75% chance of approval, a significant increase from the previous estimation of just 25%.

This assessment from Balchunas comes in response to the news of the SEC's request to amend spot Ethereum ETF applications, known as Form 19b-4, a process similar to that followed before granting approvals to Bitcoin spot ETFs.

The cryptocurrency community is buzzing with speculation about the potential approval of these exchange-traded funds for the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization. Ethereum (ETH) is experiencing a surge, with a notable 22.1% increase in the last 24 hours alone.

Spot ETFs allow investors to directly own an underlying asset through a major exchange, offering a regulated and secure means of investment. With over nine Bitcoin ETFs approved in January this year, there was a significant price surge for the leading cryptocurrency.

Traditional asset managers seek a regulated avenue to invest in crypto assets without resorting to centralized exchanges. Now, with the availability of ETFs, particularly for Bitcoin, major funds like JPMorgan Chase, BlackRock, and Morgan Stanley, with assets totaling in the trillions, have entered the cryptocurrency market.

Analysts initially anticipated Ethereum to follow Bitcoin's success with its own spot Ether ETF approval. However, Ethereum's dynamics, particularly its staking feature, pose challenges. The SEC is cautious about passive gains from staking, which could classify Ethereum as a security rather than a commodity, making an ETF approval complex.

Nonetheless, the SEC aims to regulate major cryptocurrencies comprehensively, and an ETF seems to be the most viable option. The timing and approval of Spot Ethereum ETF applications remain uncertain, although Balchunas is now optimistic about their likelihood of approval.
