BNB Chain has announced plans to enable native liquid staking on the BNB Smart Chain (BSC). This development comes as part of BNB Chain's ongoing efforts to fully transition all functionality from the Beacon Chain via the BNB Chain Fusion.

The BNB Chain Fusion, a milestone initiative announced in January, aims to migrate staking, governance, and other activities to the BSC as the Beacon Chain is phased out. This transition is being executed in phases, with the ultimate goal of transforming BNB Chain's structure from a dual-chain system to a single-chain network, solidifying BNB as the native token.

According to the BNB Chain team, the fusion process is designed to streamline the blockchain network, enhancing operational efficiency and security while facilitating future growth across the DeFi ecosystem. As part of this transition, BNB Chain validators can look forward to more valuable staking opportunities, particularly through maximum extractable value (MEV) and liquid staking derivatives (LSDFi).

Liquid staking, a revolutionary concept in the world of blockchain, will enable BNB holders to contribute to securing the BNB Chain network while retaining the liquidity of their assets. This integration is expected to occur in April or early May, further incentivizing participation in the network's growth and development.

By implementing liquid staking, BNB Chain aims to offer a range of benefits to its community. Delegators will have the opportunity to compound their staking rewards, as well as contribute to network governance through direct voting on the BSC, a feature that was previously unavailable.

Moreover, liquid staking will provide stakers with greater flexibility, allowing them to earn from other DeFi protocols, such as liquid staking and restaking protocols like Lido and Renzo. "By issuing liquid staking tokens that represent staked BNB, users can engage in DeFi activities without sacrificing asset utility," the BNB Chain team explained in their blog post.
