South Korea's once-trusted guardians of law stand accused in a shocking case that exposes a web of corruption spun from crypto fraud. Two police officers, identified only as "A" and "B", are on trial for allegedly accepting bribes to influence the investigation of a major art-themed altcoin scam.

The mastermind behind the scheme, a cunning conman named Tak, is believed to have swindled victims out of millions by peddling a bogus Ethereum (ETH) and NFT project. As investigations closed in, Tak, desperate to clear his name, resorted to bribery. He enlisted the help of a shady legal broker, Seong, who allegedly dangled promotions in front of officers A and B in exchange for their influence.

Prosecutors paint a picture of Seong, a weaver of deceit, strategically placing cash-stuffed envelopes into the unsuspecting officers' coat pockets. The defense, however, questions the timing of these alleged bribes, pointing out that promotions are typically finalized well before February, the month Seong supposedly made his pleas.

This case extends far beyond these three individuals. Seong's web of corruption reportedly stretched to prosecutors and other police officers, with a total of 18 people indicted. A Mokpo prosecutor has already been jailed for accepting bribes to leak sensitive information.

The court hearings continue, with more officers expected to face trial. This crypto fraud case has shattered public trust in law enforcement, raising serious questions about the vulnerability of Korea's justice system to manipulation by ill-gotten gains.
