On the 11th of January (yesterday), yellow Card announced her partnership with Coinbase to increase access to USDC and other digital assets in Africa.

What is Yellow Card? You can hardly be an African immersed in crypto and have yet to hear about Yellow Card: Yh, big name, big actions.

It is one of Africa’s largest crypto exchanges where users can buy and sell, send, and receive stablecoins and other cryptocurrencies. Launched in 2019, the company has made a name for itself but this article is not to dive into Yellow Card rather it’s to shed light on their recent partnership which is positioned to be beneficial to Africans.

Yellow Card x Coinbase

Yellow Card and Coinbase have sealed a partnership that allows African Coinbase users to switch between fiat and cryptocurrency, including USDC, through the integration of Yellow Card’s Widget. This Yellow Card Widget grants businesses (Coinbase, in this instance) that deal with digital assets ease to provide their customers with an improved experience.

With this, African Coinbase customers can make payments across 20 African countries through Yellow Card’s payment options to those parts of the globe. This partnership is expected to revolutionize the ease of access to and convenience of digital assets across Africa - a continent on the top of the list for remittances.

Speaking on the partnership, the co-founder and CEO of Yellow Card, Chris Maurice expressed his enthusiasm for making stablecoins and other digital assets more accessible to Africans who, prior to this, didn’t have access to these. He believes in the potential of this partnership in onboarding the next “one billion” people to partake in the “future of finance” given Coinbase’s global reach and Yellow Card’s regional prowess.

This partnership has some interesting benefits:

~ Users can send and receive USDC via Base Network (Coinbase’s layer 2 chain) which will be cheap - at least compared to networks like Ethereum.

Coinbase will integrate Yellow Card's payment rails in Africa, enabling users to switch between fiat currency, Bitcoin (and other cryptocurrencies), and USDC on Base. With this partnership, this function will be accessible to African customers via Coinbase Wallet, which recently adopted a new feature to make transfers via links from social media platforms like Whatsapp. Telegram, Instagram, iMessage, and Facebook.

~ Customers will have access to various affordable payment options in their local currencies through this partnership.

~ The partnership also promises safe and secure transactions.

This is a good one not just for Yellow Card but for Africans who wish to get into the crypto space but are hiding behind the complexity.
