Brian Kelly, a CNBC expert on cryptocurrencies, stirred speculation recently by suggesting that Solana (SOL) could become the next digital currency to have an exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States. He made this prediction on a CNBC talk show shortly before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was set to decide on a proposed ETF for Ethereum (ETH).

Kelly proposed that traders should now consider which cryptocurrency will follow Bitcoin and Ethereum in prominence, identifying Solana as a likely candidate for the third major player in the current cycle.

However, not everyone agrees with Kelly's assessment. Nate Geraci, president of The ETF Store, believes a Solana ETF will only materialize once a futures product for Solana is listed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange or when there's a clear regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies established by Congress. Currently, only Bitcoin and Ether futures are approved in the U.S. Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart shares this view, suggesting that a Solana ETF could gain popularity once these hurdles are overcome, although he warns that past SEC actions against Solana could complicate matters.

Adam Cochran, a partner at Cinneamhain Ventures, offers a different perspective, suggesting that Litecoin (LTC) or Dogecoin (DOGE) could be the next cryptocurrencies featured in a spot ETF. While few ETF issuers have proposed a spot Solana ETF, Franklin Templeton recently praised Solana and its co-founder, Anatoly Yakovenko, sparking speculation about a potential ETF application.
