The Taipei District Prosecutors' Office has indicted 32 individuals, including the founders of Ace Exchange, in a $24.56 million fraud case. The investigation has uncovered a sophisticated scheme that allegedly misled over 1,200 investors, resulting in significant losses.

Sophisticated Fraud Scheme Uncovered

The indictments outline a complex fraud operation that involved the promotion of various token investments, such as NFTC tokens and bitnature coins. The suspects are accused of issuing deceptive white papers and promotional materials to lure investors into the Ace Exchange ecosystem, promising it would become the top blockchain trading platform in Asia.

However, the reality for investors was far more grim. The tokens they invested in lost value, and they were unable to convert them back into fiat currency, despite the assurances given.

Arrests and Asset Seizures

In January 2024, the Taipei City Police apprehended 15 individuals, including Ace Exchange founder David Pan, after a thorough investigation. The raid targeted the exchange's main office and uncovered connections to a fake cryptocurrency wallet service known as "Alfred" or "Afu wallet," as well as associated cryptocurrency cards.

The court has already seized the defendants' assets, valued at least 3.5 million New Taiwan dollars ($110,000), providing a form of compensation for the defrauded investors.

Potential Lengthy Sentences

The prosecutors are seeking a 20-year jail term for the four principal suspects, including Wang Chen-huan, a well-known lawyer and the chairman of Ace Exchange. His involvement as a legal consultant is believed to have lent a sense of legitimacy to the fraudulent activities.

Ace Exchange's Response

In response to the indictment, Ace Exchange has denied any association with David Pan, stating that he has not been involved in the platform's day-to-day operations since 2022. However, this assurance has done little to restore trust in the exchange.
