Don't worry if you're not a blockchain researcher or find it challenging to navigate the intricacies of a Blockchain Explorer. We'll embark on a hands-on educational series to explain how to use these explorers, using Ethereum as our case study.

First things first, you have to learn before you earn (although I know many people do earn while learning on the job 🙂).

Back to our topic, in order to earn around $3,000 on the Etherscan Bug Bounty Program, you MUST learn. In this educational series, we'll dissect the Etherscan environment in a 'basic-detailed' way. Yes, a basic yet detailed approach (I actually coined this term while writing this 😂).

Let me explain, by 'basic-detailed approach,' I mean that we'll be looking at the BASIC features of the Etherscan interface/environment in a detailed and hands-on manner.". We aren’t just scratching the surface.

Alright, let's get to the meat of the matter. Our primary focus today is to have a foundational knowledge of what etherscan is and have a general overview of the etherscan.io interface.

Etherscan is a blockchain explorer and analytics platform for Ethereum that allows users to view all transactions in real time. In simple terms, a blockchain explorer is a search engine like Google and Bing. However, the distinction here is that these two are used to browse the internet while, explorers are used for “browsing” blockchain data, transactions, and information in real time.

Etherscan is divided into seven (7) sections viz;

Home

Typing in etherscan.io automatically takes you to the Home page by default. Most users do not explore beyond this page, probably because it contains the basic tools they need. The tools found on the Home page are a search bar, Ether price, market capitalization, transactions, blocks, etc. We’ll be discussing all these as the series progresses.

Blockchain

This section gives us a well-detailed view of activities going on in the blockchain ranging from transactions, pending transactions, contract internal transactions, blocks, Beacon deposits, withdrawals, uncles, etc.

Token

Sub-divided into Top tokens (ERC20) and Token transfers, this section tracks tokens and token transfers in the Ethereum network.

NFTs

This section provides users with detailed information on top NFTs, and top mints, also enabling them to latest trades, latest transfers, and latest mints.

Resources

Just as the name implies, users can find valuable resources to aid in their research and decision-making here. Tools provided in this section include; charts & stats, top statistics, the directory, a newsletter, and knowledge base sub-sections.

Developer

Tools ranging from APIs, API documentation, compilers, etc needed by blockchain developers can be seen here.

More

Contains many other Ethereum tools and services. These include a unit converter, account balance checker, node tracker, and Domain Name lookup, amongst others
