A recent report by digital asset brokerage firm K33 suggests that the collapsed crypto exchange FTX's repayments could have a positive impact on the crypto market. Unlike Mt. Gox and Gemini, which will reimburse creditors with in-kind payments, FTX has sold off assets to pay creditors in cash. This could lead to increased buying pressure, potentially offsetting the selling pressure from in-kind repayments.

FTX owed its top 50 creditors around $3.1 billion, with a total of $9 billion in liabilities, after its collapse in November 2022. The FTX estate has since sold various assets, including portions of its Solana and Grayscale shares, to raise funds for repayments. The timing of these repayments may still affect the market, with Gemini's $1.7 billion repayment expected in early June and Mt. Gox's $8.9 billion repayment expected by October 2024.

If the court approves FTX's reorganization plan, creditors can expect repayment within two months. However, uncertainty remains regarding the approval timeline, with recipients preparing for repayments in late Q4 2024.

According to K33, the different timing of these repayments could indicate a slow summer in the market, followed by a strong end to the year. FTX's recent reorganization proposal revealed that it holds up to $16.3 billion for creditor repayments, with plans to repay creditors with claims under $50,000 a 118% compensation.
