Speaking at a summit in Washington DC, Gensler reiterated his concerns about fraud in the crypto market and conflicts within crypto exchanges.

During his speech at the Investment Company Institute 2024 Leadership Summit, Gensler refrained from discussing plans for Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) but affirmed the SEC's commitment to following legal protocols regarding crypto-related ETF applications. He highlighted a shift in the SEC's stance on Bitcoin ETFs following judicial recommendations related to Grayscale's petition.

Gensler specifically lauded the SEC's performance in litigation, particularly in cases against major crypto firms like Binance, Coinbase, and Kraken, accusing them of violating securities laws. These enforcement actions have drawn criticism from the crypto industry for what some perceive as arbitrary regulatory measures.

Criticism has also been directed at the SEC's handling of the Ripple Labs lawsuit, currently progressing to the remedies phase. The SEC has sought substantial financial penalties from Ripple for allegedly violating securities regulations, a decision that Ripple's legal team anticipates will be finalized this year.

In a recent development, the SEC has opposed aspects of Ripple's request to seal and redact evidence pertaining to the ongoing litigation, arguing that transparency is crucial for the court's decision-making process.
