Cloud crypto mining platform NiceHash has announced a new firmware product developed in collaboration with Marathon Digital, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of retail and home miners. The product, named NiceHash Firmware Powered by MARA, leverages the strengths of both companies to offer advanced features and improved performance for Bitcoin miners.

Marathon Digital, known as the world’s largest and most efficient Bitcoin miner by market cap, is bringing its cutting-edge technology to the broader market through this partnership. In May alone, Marathon mined 390 BTC, underscoring its efficiency and capacity. Ashu Swami, Chief Technology Officer of Marathon Digital, highlighted the benefits of the collaboration, stating, "This collaboration allows us to bring advanced safety and optimization features to Bitcoin miners of all sizes, enhancing their performance and profitability."

Advanced Mining Firmware

The new firmware, introduced by Marathon Digital as MARAFW in March, was initially designed for the company’s extensive fleet of over 200,000 ASICs and its enterprise clients. The NiceHash Firmware Powered by MARA combines features from both companies, providing a unique product that will be accessible to a wider range of users. The firmware will be available with a fee structure of 2%, or 1.4% when using the NiceHash pool.

NiceHash’s firmware is versatile, compatible with various ASIC mining machine models and management tools. It supports multiple algorithms, allowing miners to switch between them based on efficiency. This adaptability is further enhanced by the inclusion of dedicated algorithms, such as Kadena’s Blake2s, which was added in April to enable Kadena (KDA) coin mining.

Key features of the NiceHash firmware include autotuning, temperature control, and a mobile app for offsite ASIC management, making it a comprehensive solution for both large-scale and home-based miners.

Pooling Resources for Enhanced Profitability

The profitability of crypto mining has been a critical focus, especially following the halving event that cut miners' profits per block by 50% in April. In this context, the new firmware aims to boost miners' efficiency and profitability by integrating advanced optimization and safety features.

In addition to software and mining services, NiceHash operates a hashrate market where ASIC owners can sell their hashing power for any supported coin. Buyers receive block mining rewards, while sellers are paid the average price of all orders in the NiceHash pool, mitigating risk for sellers regardless of whether a block is mined.
