IBM has announced a partnership with the Spanish Government to develop basic artificial intelligence models for Spanish and related languages such as Catalan, Basque, Galician, and Valencian.

The agreement includes a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in AI and supercomputing projects and to further the ethical and responsible use of generative AI in Spain.

The collaboration aims to produce a range of foundational models tailored for the Spanish language and co-official languages.

As part of this Memorandum, a key focus is on creating a suite of foundation models, both large and small language models, that are proficient in Spanish and related languages.

The partnership also involves exploring AI applications to assist in the research, development, and verification of new materials to enhance the sustainability of the semiconductor supply chain.
