Kain Warwick, the founder of Synthetix, has announced the impending launch of Infinex, slated for May 13. This launch comes after delays from its initially planned debut in the fourth quarter of 2022. Warwick made the announcement during his appearance at the ETH Global conference in Sydney, Australia, emphasizing the protocol's potential to transform user engagement within the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector.

Infinex, initially conceived as a decentralized platform to facilitate access to Synthetix's liquidity and trading features, has evolved into a more comprehensive platform. It aims to address and reduce the barriers currently hindering broader adoption of DeFi. The Infinex Account, a pivotal feature of the protocol, will allow users to manage cross-chain smart contracts through Web2 authentication methods like email login. This integration is intended to simplify the user experience significantly, bridging the gap between decentralized and traditional financial services.

Warwick highlighted the continued dominance of centralized exchanges (CEXs) despite the growing capabilities and diversity of applications within the on-chain ecosystem. He pointed out that even after high-profile collapses like that of FTX, many users still prefer the convenience of CEXs over transitioning to DeFi platforms. For Warwick, the primary hurdle for DeFi adoption is not just about offering superior products or enhanced security; it’s largely about improving the user experience.

Infinex is designed to function as the "UX layer" of DeFi, providing a user interface reminiscent of centralized exchanges while maintaining the principles of decentralization. This approach is expected to facilitate easier access and management of decentralized applications across various blockchain networks such as Ethereum, Base, Optimism, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Solana.

Moreover, Infinex plans to incorporate social passkeys, allowing users to log in through familiar Web2 interfaces such as Google accounts.
