Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has stated his intention to strengthen AI collaboration between Japan and the US. This announcement comes as Japan aims to combat deflation and boost its economy, while South Korea has also revealed plans to invest heavily in AI chips.

Kishida and US President Joe Biden are set to meet to discuss diplomacy and trade, with a focus on technological cooperation, which is crucial to the economy. Kishida discussed domestic challenges at a roundtable on emerging technologies at the US Chamber of Commerce. Following this, Microsoft's president and vice chair, Brad Smith, announced a significant investment of approximately $3 billion in Japan. Kishida has expressed his enthusiasm for harnessing the potential of AI in Japan and has praised Microsoft's recent proposal.

Microsoft has announced plans to invest $2.9 billion in Japan over the next two years to expand its hyper-scale cloud computing and AI infrastructure. The tech giant will also establish its first Microsoft Research Asia lab in Japan, enhance cybersecurity cooperation with the Japanese government, and offer AI skills training to over 3 million people in the next three years.

Meanwhile, South Korea has also announced its intention to invest $6.94 billion in AI by 2027, aiming to maintain its position as a leading producer of advanced semiconductor chips. This announcement comes on the same day as Japan's AI collaboration plans, indicating a race to advance in AI technology.
