Bitcoin mining giant Marathon Digital has recently formed a new partnership with Kenya’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum (MOEP) to boost the country's growing renewable energy sector. The collaboration will emphasize the exchange of technical knowledge, research, policy ideas, investment strategies, and the development of essential energy infrastructure.

Following this agreement, Marathon Digital CEO Fred Thiel highlighted the benefits of this partnership with Kenya's Ministry of Energy and Petroleum:

It demonstrates the innovative approach that Kenya is taking to optimize their energy usage and to enhance their technological infrastructure.”

According to the International Trade Administration (ITA), over 80% of Kenya’s electricity is generated from renewable energy sources. The country utilizes a mix of wind, solar, hydroelectric power, and geothermal energy, with geothermal energy being the largest contributor to its electrical grid. The ITA also pointed out that Kenya is one of the world's lowest-cost producers of geothermal energy and an ideal location for solar energy production due to its abundant sunlight.
