Midas, a prominent tokenization platform backed by Coinbase Ventures and other significant investors, has launched a new yield-bearing token called mBASIS. This innovative ERC-20 token, pegged to the dollar, aims to deliver consistent yield through a delta-neutral basis trading strategy. Delta-neutral basis trading involves profiting from the price discrepancies between the spot and perpetual futures markets, capturing the difference while maintaining a market-neutral stance.

The introduction of mBASIS sets the stage for competition with Ethena Labs' popular yield-bearing token, sUSDe, which has rapidly gained traction and currently leads the market with a $1.65 billion market cap. Both tokens leverage delta-neutral strategies for yield generation, but Midas believes it offers a more refined product. Fabrice Grinda, Executive Chairman of Midas, expressed confidence in mBASIS, citing its advanced approach and robust management framework as key differentiators.

Dennis Dinkelmeyer, founder of Midas, elaborated on the differences between mBASIS and sUSDe. Unlike Ethena's product, mBASIS is managed by a leading licensed asset manager, ensuring that the investment process aligns with investors' best interests. Additionally, mBASIS benefits from the oversight of an independent regulated fund administrator, NAV Consulting, and provides bankruptcy protection through a special purpose vehicle, safeguarding client assets in the event of a default.

One of the standout features of mBASIS is its adaptability. The token dynamically adjusts its basis positions across bitcoin, ether, and the top 20 altcoins, making it a resilient investment option under various market conditions. For instance, during bullish markets, mBASIS can exploit positive funding rates, while in bearish phases, it switches to reverse basis trading or shifts to the more stable mTBILL. This strategic flexibility has resulted in an APY of around 20% in early June, currently averaging about 12%, reflecting market fluctuations.

Midas is optimistic about the future of mBASIS, with the token already securing several million dollars in total value locked (TVL). The platform aims to exceed $100 million in TVL for both mBASIS and mTBILL by the end of the year. mTBILL, which is designed for bear markets and backed by U.S. Treasuries, currently has a TVL of approximately $7 million.

Compliance and investor protection are paramount for Midas. Both mBASIS and mTBILL adhere to European securities regulations, ensuring legal certainty and safeguarding investor interests. These tokens are not available to U.S. persons or entities, or those from sanctioned jurisdictions. The minimum investment for both products is set at 100,000 euros, though qualified investors may be eligible for lower minimum amounts.

Midas' launch of mBASIS reflects its strategic vision to capture a significant share of the yield-bearing token market. Backed by high-profile investors like Coinbase Ventures, GSR, and BlockTower Capital, the Berlin-based startup is well-positioned for growth, having raised $8.75 million in funding in March. As the market evolves, mBASIS’s ability to adapt to changing conditions and deliver attractive returns positions it as a formidable competitor to existing yield-bearing tokens like Ethena's sUSDe.
