This astronomical price tag not only marked the second-highest sale ever for a CryptoPunk but also dethroned the previous record holder, CryptoPunk #3100, which sold for a cool $16 million just weeks earlier on March 4th.

While all CryptoPunks are unique, what truly elevates #7804 to the top tier is its scarcity. Out of the 10,000-strong CryptoPunk collection, only a mere nine boast the coveted alien attribute. Combined with its other distinctive features – the forward cap, pipe, and small shades – #7804 becomes a true digital rarity, much sought after by collectors.

The seller, known as Peruggia, took to their X account to express mixed emotions about the sale. While undoubtedly thrilled by the hefty sum, Peruggia also described the feeling as an "end of an era" and even confessed to a sense of imposter syndrome, questioning whether they had truly maximized the NFT's potential.

Interestingly, Peruggia had acquired #7804 back in March 2021 for a then-considerable sum of 4,200 ETH, equivalent to $7.5 million. They held onto the NFT for over three years, even rejecting an offer of around $18 million in 2022. This unwavering belief in the value of their pixelated punk ultimately paid off handsomely.
