Amidst growing concerns over the implications of such allegations, calls for accountability and clarity have echoed throughout the community.

Rume Ophi, the Executive Secretary of the Stakeholders in Blockchain Technology Association of Nigeria (SiBAN), emphasized the necessity for Binance to divulge the names of individuals involved in the alleged bribery attempt. Ophi underscored that such disclosure would not only validate the accusations but also facilitate necessary actions by authorities to address any wrongdoing. This, in turn, is seen as pivotal in safeguarding Nigeria's reputation within the global crypto landscape and fostering a conducive environment for future business engagements.

The sentiments were echoed by Nathaniel Luz, CEO of Flincap, a crypto exchange liquidity platform, who expressed skepticism regarding the alleged involvement of Nigerian officials in soliciting bribes from Binance. Luz emphasized the importance of naming specific individuals to substantiate the claims, thereby bringing clarity to the situation and enabling appropriate recourse.

The unfolding saga comes against the backdrop of prior regulatory scrutiny faced by Binance in Nigeria. In 2023, Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission declared Binance Nigeria's operations illegal, citing lack of registration and regulation. Subsequently, the Central Bank of Nigeria raised concerns over suspected illicit transactions facilitated by crypto exchanges, including Binance, further exacerbating regulatory tensions.

The situation reached a crescendo when the Nigerian House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes summoned Binance CEO Richard Teng to address concerns regarding the platform's operations. Demands for remedial actions, such as delisting the naira and providing detailed user information, were tabled, culminating in the detention of individuals associated with Binance, including Tigran Gambaryan and Anjarwalla.

In response to mounting pressure, Binance CEO Richard Teng provided insights into the situation, attributing the ongoing detention of Gambaryan to unidentified individuals who allegedly approached exchange employees with bribery proposals.
