Political memecoins linked to former U.S. President Donald Trump saw significant volatility following the conclusion of his hush money trial.

After a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, a token named FreeTrump ($TRUMP) surged 330% to $0.019 within the past day, according to CoinGecko. Additionally, the Jeo Boden (BODEN) token increased by 9.2% to $0.3319 during the same period.

However, many Trump-related political memecoins declined post-sentencing. The MAGA (TRUMP) token, associated with a wallet holding 580,000 coins linked to Trump, dropped 16.2% to $11.54. The MAGA VP (MVP) token, hinting at Trump's potential vice presidential pick, fell 16.5% to around $0.48.

Overall, the political finance (PolitiFi) memecoin market capitalization decreased by 0.1% to approximately $1.56 billion, as reported by CoinGecko.

On May 30, Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records, related to his lawyer Michael Cohen's $130,000 payment to an adult actress before the 2016 election. Trump's sentencing is scheduled for July, with a potential prison term of up to four years.

The Trump hush money trial is historic as it marks the first time a former U.S. president has been tried and convicted on criminal charges.

Amidst this uncertainty, Trump's public image has been intertwined with cryptocurrency performance. The trading volume for the "Trump Digital Trading Card Collection" dropped 99% ahead of his April criminal trial. His team had initially launched the 45,000 NFT collection in December 2022, with tokens starting at $99 each, as previously reported by The Block.
