Pre-order holders of Solana’s eagerly awaited ‘Chapter 2’ mobile phone found themselves unexpectedly in the green as they briefly enjoyed a profitable windfall from the yet-to-be-released device. This unique turn of events unfolded when meme coins airdropped to buyers temporarily exceeded the cost of the phone itself.

In April, two cat-themed meme coin projects, Cat in a Dog’s World (MEW) and Maneki (MANEKI), decided to reward early adopters by airdropping tokens to the wallets of crypto users who had pre-ordered the new Chapter 2 device, which carried an initial price tag of $450.

On April 1, MEW distributed 37,600 tokens to each holder, which, at its peak post-airdrop price of $0.0089, translated to a value of $334 per holder, according to CoinGecko data. Similarly, MANEKI airdropped a total of 5,199 tokens to each holder on April 24, reaching a peak price of $0.269 on April 25.

When combined with other meme coin projects like Wuffi (WUFFI), which airdropped 114,000 tokens to Chapter 2 wallets, the cumulative airdrops amounted to $480, surpassing the cost of the device. This unexpected turn of events not only allowed holders to pay off the device but also left room for an additional $30 in profit, as calculated by airdrop value checker twoloot.com.

However, the value of these meme coins has since seen a decline, with MEW currently valued at $220 and MANEKI at $124.

Notably, buyers were required to connect a Solana wallet address when pre-ordering Chapter 2 devices, enabling them to access the airdropped tokens even before the phone's arrival.

This isn't the first time Solana device owners have been beneficiaries of meme coin distributions. Owners of Solana’s first mobile device, the ‘Saga,’ were also recipients of Maneki tokens in their respective wallets.

The original Solana Saga, released in May of the previous year, received mixed reviews due to technical issues and usability concerns. However, interest in the device surged in December when a meme coin rally for Bonk (BONK) presented an arbitrage opportunity. Between November 15 and December 15 of the prior year, the price of BONK surged over 1,100%, making the 30,000 BONK airdrop worth more than $1,150—$551 above the Saga phone's original $599 price tag.

The convergence of meme coin enthusiasm and Solana device ownership has created unexpected financial opportunities for early adopters, illustrating the dynamic and evolving nature of the cryptocurrency landscape.
