Two separate vulnerabilities discovered in a derivative of the Gains Network leveraged trading protocol could have enabled traders to make a 900% profit on each trade, regardless of the token's price, according to a report by Zellic, a blockchain security firm.

One bug was found in a previous Gains version and later patched, while the other was exclusive to a forked version of the protocol. Although Zellic notified developers of affected forks, caution remains as other forks might still be susceptible.

Gains Network, a decentralized finance ecosystem, hosts the leveraged trading app "gTrade," facilitating over $25 billion in derivatives volume since its establishment in May 2023. Zellic revealed that numerous DeFi trading apps stem from Gains Network's codebase, highlighting the exploit without specifying the specific fork.

The vulnerabilities allowed users to manipulate trades by setting stop-loss prices higher than opening prices or entering extremely high values, resulting in substantial profits, though checks to prevent these actions could be bypassed under certain conditions.

While Zellic notified relevant parties and sought further affected protocols through the Crypto Security Alliance, risks to users' funds persist in potentially vulnerable Gains forks.
