Ripple and XRPL Labs have teamed up with Swirlds Labs, the developer of Hedera blockchain network, and the Algorand Foundation to become key members of the Decentralized Recovery (DeRec) Alliance. This alliance aims to expedite digital asset recovery through an open-source process and develop a new interoperability recovery standard, particularly catering to users without extensive crypto expertise.

The DeRec Alliance, founded by Hedera co-founder Leemon Baird, boasts a diverse lineup of members, including Acoer, BankSocial, Blade Labs, The Building Blocks, Casper Association, Constellation Network, The Hashgraph Association, The HBAR Foundation, and Revive Labs. Together, these members collaborate on establishing protocols to streamline the recovery process for lost keys or passwords in both web2 and web3 environments.

"In this digital age, users need a safety net for when they lose keys or passwords or other secrets," remarked Leemon Baird. The partnership between the Algorand Foundation and Swirlds Labs, which initiated in January of this year, laid the foundation for the DeRec Alliance. Founding members play a crucial role in shaping Alliance policies and governance structures, holding a two-year seat on the Technical Oversight Committee.

The DeRec protocol establishes a standard system of secret management among designated helpers, enabling the recovery of secrets without disclosing information about the secret itself. This approach ensures enhanced security while simplifying the user experience, a critical factor in driving mass retail adoption of digital assets.
