Onafriq, Africa’s leading and largest digital payments platform, has joined forces with Ripple in a bid to enable smooth digital asset payments between Africa and the international market.

These two crypto giants are partnering to facilitate crypto-based cross-border payments connecting Africa with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the U.K., and Australia. This partnership not only makes international transfers faster and better but also helps more people in Africa access financial services while onboarding them into the crypto space.

According to the report, Dare Okoudjou, Founder and CEO at Onafriq, said:

We are advancing this mission through our partnership with Ripple, which is already enabling new types of connections with fintechs such as PayAngel, Pyppl, and Zazi Transfer. These connections are set to enable fast, secure, and low-cost remittances at scale between Africa and the rest of the world, and represent a bold first step for our crypto strategy to leverage blockchain technologies to amplify our impact on people and businesses on the continent.”

Onafriq (formerly MFS Africa), is harnessing Ripple Payments’ technology to establish three additional payment routes connecting Africa to global destinations. This enables clients of PayAngel (UK), Pyypl (GCC), and Zazi Transfer (Australia) to swiftly and affordably send remittances and business payments to beneficiaries in 27 countries across Onafriq’s vast pan-African network.

Also, with this partnership, Onafriq aims to eradicate the typical issues linked to cross-border payments such as prolonged transfer durations, unreliability, and high expenses.

While discussing his company's decision to partner with Onafriq, Aaron Sears, the Global Customer Success representative at Ripple, mentioned:

This collaboration between Onafriq and Ripple is in line with the increasing importance of mobile money to help more people access financial services in Africa. Not only that, but it also represents a bold step in using blockchain technology. Through this, African users will gain more knowledge about blockchain, increasing the widespread of this technology across the continent while simultaneously making financial services easier.
