The media statement possibly marks one of the final public remarks made by the ex-FTX CEO before beginning his federal prison term, speculated to be in the vicinity of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Reportedly, former FTX CEO Sam “SBF” Bankman-Fried has addressed inquiries from news agencies subsequent to receiving a 25-year federal prison sentence.

As per an ABC News report dated April 1, Bankman-Fried replied via email to queries while confined at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since August 2023. Judge Lewis Kaplan of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York handed down the 25-year sentence on March 28 following Bankman-Fried's conviction on seven felony charges.

"I never believed my actions were unlawful," SBF stated to ABC. "Every day, I am tormented by the losses. I never aimed to harm or defraud anyone."

Bankman-Fried's responses to inquiries often sidestepped accountability for the crypto exchange's collapse in November 2022, citing "poor decisions" but disavowing malicious intent. His remarks echoed those made before sentencing, largely justifying his conduct prior to FTX's bankruptcy declaration and asserting the exchange would have endured, with customers eventually reimbursed.

The statement made to ABC potentially represents one of Bankman-Fried's final public communications before commencing his prison term. Judge Kaplan recommended that the former CEO serve the remainder of his sentence in a medium- or low-security facility in the San Francisco Bay Area.

A docket entry from March 28 suggested Bankman-Fried would serve approximately 24.25 years, accounting for time spent in pre-trial detention. Legal analysts have suggested potential sentence reductions for good behavior, although federal prisons do not offer parole.

Bankman-Fried's legal team announced intentions to appeal the verdict on March 28. As of now, no appeal has been formally lodged.
