After a prolonged absence from the public eye following the tumultuous downfall of cryptocurrency exchange FTX in late 2022, Sam Trabucco, a significant figure within Sam Bankman-Fried's inner circle, has reemerged into the spotlight.

According to reports from Bloomberg, Trabucco has stepped forward to offer his support to Ryan Salame, another former executive of FTX currently awaiting sentencing for his role in the platform's demise.

Trabucco's endorsement of Salame came in the form of a heartfelt letter, where he described Salame as the "funniest, most passionate, most supportive friend" he has ever known. This letter, which became public as part of court filings on Wednesday, marks Trabucco's first public communication since the days leading up to FTX's bankruptcy in November 2022.

Previously serving as the co-chief executive of Alameda Research, a cryptocurrency fund founded by Bankman-Fried, Trabucco played a pivotal role in venture capital and market-making activities. However, in August 2022, just three months before FTX's collapse, he abruptly withdrew from Alameda and retreated from public life.

Unlike other close associates of Bankman-Fried, such as Caroline Ellison, Trabucco did not partake in Bankman-Fried's trial nor contribute publicly available evidence. Despite this, he has not faced any public accusations of wrongdoing.

Trabucco shares a longstanding association with Bankman-Fried, dating back to their days at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) math camp. Reports suggest that he often drew parallels between his poker strategy and Alameda's trading decisions.

Leading up to Alameda's collapse, Trabucco reportedly received approximately $25 million in transfers from the firm. Additionally, Alameda allegedly spent $2.5 million to purchase a 52-foot yacht for Trabucco, affectionately named "Soak My Deck."

Ryan Salame, who previously oversaw FTX's digital assets unit in the Bahamas, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business and engaging in campaign finance fraud.

As legal proceedings continue, the emergence of Sam Trabucco and his public support for Ryan Salame sheds new light on the aftermath of FTX's collapse. Meanwhile, FTX's native token, FTT, is currently trading at $1.65, reflecting a decline of over 3% in the past 24 hours.
