Cypher Protocol, a Solana-based decentralized exchange (DEX), is reeling after a core developer, known only as Hoak, admitted to stealing roughly $300,000 in user funds and gambling them away. This bombshell follows on the heels of a previous hack in August 2023, where the DEX lost over $1 million.

The house of cards began to topple when another developer, Barrett_io, noticed missing funds in the Cypher redemption contract. A member of a Discord group (crypto enthusiasts' online forum) experiencing withdrawal issues further fueled the flames.

Investigations revealed Hoak had siphoned funds over several months through 36 withdrawals, totaling $317,000 in Solana, Tether (USDT), and USDC. These funds were then funneled to a crypto exchange, suggesting a gambling binge.
