Samson Mow, a prominent Bitcoin advocate and the CEO of Jan3, has made waves with his recent remarks on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). In a video excerpt from an interview shared by Jan3 on social media, Mow issued a stark warning about the underlying intentions of central banks in developing CBDCs and the potential societal impacts.

Mow argued that the primary strategy behind the global push for CBDCs is control: "trying to control the money so you can control the people." He suggested that central banks and governments are leveraging these centralized digital currencies to exert greater influence over their populations. Mow expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of this approach but questioned the duration and intensity of their efforts.

He cited Nigeria's experience with its CBDC, the eNaira, as a cautionary example. The Nigerian government initially marketed the eNaira as an optional, convenient, and secure digital currency. However, when public interest remained low, the government imposed restrictions on cash withdrawals from ATMs. This move, according to Mow, led to a crackdown on cryptocurrency exchanges and increased efforts to control crypto transactions.

Mow is critical of these measures, stating that they are ultimately futile: "Bitcoin is unstoppable," he declared. He expressed concern over whether governments, like Nigeria's, would escalate to authoritarian measures to curb Bitcoin usage, potentially imprisoning individuals for owning the cryptocurrency.

Mow also shared his bullish outlook on Bitcoin, predicting that it will inevitably reach $1 million. This forecast, he noted, is "a when, not an if." His optimism is fueled by the recent approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs by the SEC and the approaching Bitcoin halving event. Mow believes these factors will create a demand shock that, combined with the supply shock from the halving, will drive Bitcoin's price to unprecedented heights.
