The company took action by blacklisting five unidentified wallets that collectively received 54.1 million USDT, as reported by data from Arkham Intelligence.

The most recent transaction, detected just two days ago, originated from a wallet with a history of distributing the majority of its funds to other wallets over the past six months. This move underscores Tether's commitment to curbing illicit activities within its ecosystem, a stance it has demonstrated in previous instances of addressing suspicious behavior.

This recent freeze echoes a similar action taken by Tether in collaboration with OKX and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), where approximately 225 million USDT tokens were frozen during an investigation into an international human trafficking syndicate linked to a romance scam in Southeast Asia. As regulatory scrutiny intensifies, Tether has remained vigilant in screening its customers for compliance and blacklisting wallets associated with suspicious behavior.

Meanwhile, in another development reported by Bloomberg, cryptocurrency exchange Kraken is contemplating the removal of Tether (USDT) from its platform to align with the forthcoming regulatory framework outlined in the European Union's Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA). Scheduled to come into effect in July, MiCA is expected to introduce regulations that will impact stablecoins like Tether (USDT), which are designed to maintain a one-to-one value with the dollar.

Kraken, evaluating various options including ceasing support for Tether, is navigating the potential implications of the impending regulations, particularly concerning stablecoins offered within the EU. The move comes as a response to the evolving regulatory landscape, with MiCA set to impose restrictions on stablecoins, which are widely used by traders for facilitating asset transfers between exchanges and hedging against token price fluctuations.
