The cryptocurrency markets have experienced a dramatic shift, with digital asset investment products witnessing a tidal wave of inflows last week. Like the relentless ebb and flow of the ocean, the $862 million influx nearly washed away the previous week's record $931 million outflow.

At the center of this whirlpool of activity was Bitcoin, the undisputed king of cryptocurrencies. Its products attracted a staggering $865 million, almost single-handedly driving the inflow surge. This resurgence can be attributed to a renewed interest from new ETF issuers in the United States, who collectively contributed a whopping $1.8 billion.

However, not all ships sailed smoothly through these turbulent waters. Grayscale, a prominent digital asset management firm, found itself battling against the currents, experiencing outflows of $967 million during the same period. Short-Bitcoin products, on the other hand, faced outflows for the second consecutive week, totaling $2 million.

As the tide of ETF activity started to ebb, with daily trading turnover declining by 36% compared to its peak three weeks ago, the initial market frenzy appeared to be gradually subsiding. Nevertheless, the current turnover remained significantly higher than the 2023 average, suggesting that the hype had not completely dissipated.

On a regional level, the divergence in investor sentiment continued, with the United States witnessing an additional $897 million in inflows, while Europe and Canada combined experienced outflows of $49 million, bringing their year-to-date outflows to $785 million.

Meanwhile, Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency, witnessed outflows of $19 million for the fourth consecutive week, a trend often observed after network upgrades as investors exercise caution regarding the success of these updates.

In the altcoin market, a wave of $18.3 million in inflows rippled through last week. Solana emerged as the top performer, attracting $6.1 million in inflows, while Filecoin, Polkadot, and Chainlink received $3.9 million, $2.4 million, and $1.9 million respectively, riding the crest of this digital asset surge.

However, the tides turned once again as the week began, with spot Bitcoin ETFs seeing net outflows on Monday. Withdrawals from Grayscale's Bitcoin ETF (GBTC) surged once more, reaching over $300 million, driving the combined net outflow for Bitcoin spot ETFs to $85.84 million. In contrast, BlackRock's ETF IBIT saw a net inflow of $165 million, and Fidelity's ETF FBTC recorded a net inflow of $43.99 million.

Overall, Bitcoin spot ETFs have attracted a cumulative net inflow of $12.04 billion, but the negative flows coincided with a correction in the price of Bitcoin, which dropped 5% to as low as $66,000. As of now, the leading cryptocurrency is trading at $66,858, down by more than 4% over the past day.

This ebb and flow of market sentiment comes just weeks before the highly anticipated Bitcoin halving event, expected to occur in 19 days, adding another layer of uncertainty to the already turbulent cryptocurrency waters.
