The Sandbox has unveiled a new feature called CATALYSTs, which are ERC-1155 tokens enabling users to create their own collections. These tokens allow owners to determine rarity and properties for their assets, with each CATALYST enabling the minting of a single asset.

CATALYSTs will be distributed to LAND owners on December 14, 2023, without any limitations on the number of assets they can mint, only restricted by the quantity of ERC-1155 tokens in their possession. Once minted, assets can be monetized for sale. CATALYSTs come in five types – Legendary, Epic, Rare, Uncommon, and Common – each determining the rarity of the minted asset.

The type of CATALYST also dictates the number of attribute points granted to the holder, which can then be allocated to enhance different aspects of the asset such as defense, power, and speed. Eligible players will receive CATALYSTs on December 14, 2023, with LAND owners being prioritized for the token as a gift based on a snapshot taken on December 11, 2023, at 12 p.m. UTC.

Participants can earn CATALYSTs alongside SAND rewards by fulfilling the Winter Event requirements, available exclusively to LAND owners. While the introduction of CATALYSTs by The Sandbox hasn't yet impacted the trading value of SAND, the native token, it represents an exciting addition to the metaverse experience. The announcement coincides with The Sandbox's invitation to players to celebrate the holidays in the metaverse with the Season’s Greetings event, running from December 11, 2023, to January 22, 2024, featuring a prize pool of 600,000 SAND tokens.
