Following accusations that the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) of Nigeria leaks citizens' data, NIMC has firmly denied any data breaches within its national digital ID database. Kayode Adegoke, NIMC's Head of Corporate Communications, assured the public of the registry's security and cautioned Nigerians against sharing personal information on unauthorized websites.

He listed five fraudulent websites harvesting Nigerians' data: idfinder.com.ng, Verify.Ng/sign in, championtech.com.ng, trustyonline.com, and anyverify.com. NIMC stressed that these sites are fraudulent and should be avoided at all costs.

Adegoke highlighted NIMC's dedication to data protection, compliance with ISO 27001:2013 standards, and adherence to federal regulations. He urged the public to stay vigilant and use only verified sources for identity management services.

Furthermore, the Paradigm Initiative has advocated for stricter data protection measures, referencing past incidents of mishandled personal data. NIMC reassured that it is proactively addressing cyber threats and ensuring that data criminals are held accountable..
