What is Masternode?

A masternode is a type of node in a blockchain network that performs specific functions beyond simply validating transactions and maintaining the blockchain's ledger. Masternodes are typically associated with proof-of-stake (PoS) and proof-of-authority (PoA) consensus mechanisms, although they can exist in other types of blockchain architectures as well.

Functions and Characteristics of Masternodes

Dash (formerly Darkcoin): Dash is one of the earliest cryptocurrencies to introduce masternodes. Masternodes in Dash provide functionalities such as InstantSend (instant transactions) and PrivateSend (anonymous transactions), in addition to receiving rewards for validating transactions.

Syscoin: Syscoin utilizes masternodes to provide services like decentralized governance, decentralized marketplace operations, and asset tokenization on its blockchain.

Requirements and Setup

Collateral: Masternodes require a specific amount of cryptocurrency held as collateral to ensure operators have a stake in the network's stability and security.
