The detention of Telegram’s CEO, Pavel Durov is not a “political decision”, but rather, a “judicial investigation” that would flow with legal procedures, report says. Pavel was nabbed on August 24^th and pressed with multiple charges including Fraud, cyberbullying, drug trafficking, and organized crime; there is also strong emphasis on lack of Content censorship on Telegram. These allegations are too strong to let Pavel go within a short notice, considering investigative procedures.

Secondly, the Magistrate in charge of Pavel extended his period of custody till 25^th, after his arrest the previous day. Following legal procedures from that date, Pavel’s detention could last up to 96 hours, thus extending his detention up to the 28^th. Even so, only the Magistrate can decide to either free Pavel or remand him and press charges after the period of detention.

Moreover, the magnitude of allegations against Pavel has caused the Magistrate to involve the Centre for the fight against Crime, and, the Anti-fraud National Office for further investigation.
