This is a continuation of the first release of ‘A Completed Guide to DeFi Terminology (1).’ In the first release, you were exposed to so many buzzwords that are trendy in the cryptocurrency space.

In this second release, we will be expanding the dictionary, so to call it, and looking into more words that will ensure that your conversations in the cryptocurrency space don't leave you feeling lost.

1) Memecoin: This is a digital currency without any real-world utility and is mostly trending as a result of social media hype.

2) Miner: This is an individual or group of people who utilize their computing power in helping to confirm transactions on the blockchain and receive rewards for their service

3) Mining: This is the process of creating new units of a particular cryptocurrency which are verified and added to the blockchain network.

4) Moon: This is a slang term that is used to describe when a crypto price goes up astronomically.

5) NFT: This is short-term for Non-Fungible Tokens. They are digital assets that are unique and can’t be faked.

6) Node: This is a connected computer to a blockchain network. These nodes are equal and each can be used to send messages across the entire system

7) Off-Chain: This is an external process that occurs away from the blockchain.

8) On-Chain: This is any process that occurs directly on a blockchain and can be monitored on the block explorer.

9) Permissionless: This is the feature of a blockchain that allows participants to create a contract address and partake in activities of the blockchain network.

10) Polygon (MRC20): This is a layer 2 blockchain that has been designed to be scalable, gas-efficient, and compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine.

11) Price Impact: This is the influence that a trade has over the market price of an asset.

12) Price Slippage: This is the difference in price between the time a market order is placed and the time the transaction is complete. It can either be positive or negative depending on the direction of the price change.

13) Peer to Peer: This is a system where two parties carry out financial transactions without involving third-party financial institutions like banks.

14) Proof of Authority (PoA): This is a consensus mechanism where validators need to show that they possess a certain type of stake before being allowed to run nodes.

15) Proof of Burn (PoB): This is a consensus mechanism where users need to "burn" or exchange some tokens by sending them to an address where they can no longer be spent.

16) Proof of Stake (PoS): Here, a node validator has to prove ownership of a certain amount of cryptocurrency which would guarantee the right to vote to validate a transaction.

17) Proof of Work (PoW): This is a consensus mechanism where users need to validate transactions on the blockchain by solving complex computational puzzles to add new blocks to the chain.

18) Private Key: This is a cryptographic key made up of about 64 characters which is used for making digital signatures to send cryptocurrency from the wallet.

19) Public Key: This is a cryptographic key that allows users to receive cryptocurrencies but can not be used to send funds out. They are unique and are used to encrypt the wallet.

20) Pump and Dump: This is used to describe buying and selling a coin in the market, waiting for the price to rise, and selling it off almost immediately for profit.

21) Rekt: This is a slang term used to describe where an investor loses all their money due to trading or other market factors.

22) Return on Investment (ROI): This is the percentage of returns on investment that comes from trading a particular cryptocurrency.

23) Rugpull: This is a fraudulent cryptocurrency strategy where cryptocurrency developers launch a project, and then flee with the investors’ money.

24) Satoshi Nakamoto: This is the pseudonym for the creator of Bitcoin. The identity of who created it remains a mystery despite multiple attempts to decipher it.

25) Scalability: Scalability simply entails the ability of a blockchain network to handle multiple transactions at the same time without compromising the safety and integrity of the network.

26) Scalping: This entails buying and selling a coin/token multiple times within a short timeframe to profit from the price fluctuations.

27) Shilling: This is a marketing technique used by most cryptocurrency projects which entails using social media to positively influence market sentiment around the said project.

28) S**t Coin: This is a derogatory term that is used to describe tokens with low value and are at higher risk of failing.

29) Sidechain: This is a separate chain that runs parallel to the main chain and allows for asset transfer between the chains. The main aim of such side chains is to allow for faster and cheaper transactions.

30) Smart Contract: This is a blockchain mechanism that helps in executing transactions when predetermined conditions are met.

31) Sniper Bot: This is a bot that helps speed up transactions, such that when a newly added token is added to the bot, it buys it automatically.

32) Stablecoin: This is a token that has been pegged to a price of a fiat currency of high value; e.g. USDT pegged to the US dollar.

33) Staking: In staking coins, you are locking the ones you have to be rewarded with more tokens/ coins. Once your tokens are stakes, you won’t be able to trade with them till after they are released.

34) Swap: This entails transferring one asset for another at a fixed rate.

35) Swap Fee: This is the fee associated with each swap done on a network.

36) Synthetic Token: This is a derivative token that gets value from its underlying collateral.

37) Tokenomics: This is the study of how different variables within a project affect each other and impact the decision-making process of the project.

38) Tokens: This is a unit of value used to represent an asset in a cryptocurrency ecosystem.

39) Total value locked (TVL): This is the total value of coins locked in a master node. It gives an estimate as to how undervalued or overvalued a project is.

40) Transaction Fee: This is the amount of money paid to miners on a blockchain to confirm each transaction on the block.

41) Volatile Market: This describes the fluctuations that occur in a cryptocurrency market that can easily affect one’s holdings.

42) Wallet: This is where crypto funds are stored.

43) Wallet Address: This is the public key that is used to receive funds in a wallet.

44) Wallet Seed Phrase: These are unique words that serve as a password for your cryptocurrency funds. Always ensure that your seed phrases are kept safe. If someone has access to your seed phrase, they will be able to withdraw your funds.

45) Weak hands: This is the slang term that is the direct opposite of diamond hands. It is also termed paper hands and is used to describe people who sell off their holdings at every market fluctuation.

46) Whale: This is a slang term for those investors who bring in huge capital to invest in a project.

47) Yield Farm: A yield farm is a program where liquidity providers can stake their LP tokens and earn rewards from doing so.
