In a recently released report, 21Shares predicts a deviation in the progression of the current Bitcoin halving event due to the influence of spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The organization outlines how this particular halving cycle may witness an early onset of a surge, contrasting with earlier cycles primarily because of increased institutional investments facilitated by the introduction of spot Bitcoin ETFs.

According to 21Shares, unique circumstances revolving around the upcoming Bitcoin halving indicate a departure from traditional trends. A conjunction of factors affecting both supply and demand has built a positive supply-demand interaction, suggesting that the market rally for this cycle could commence earlier than in the past. The advent of spot Bitcoin ETFs has catalyzed substantial institutional involvement, resulting in heightened demand and subsequent price upswings. Notably, conventional financial entities such as banks and wealth managers are gradually integrating Bitcoin into their investment offerings, thereby further stimulating BTC demand.

21Shares has observed a robust demand coupled with a diminishing supply, underlining the strong commitment of existing Bitcoin holders who are holding onto their coins, thus lowering the circulating supply. Moreover, a notable trend is the decreased amount of Bitcoin stored on exchanges, reducing its liquidity and accessibility for purchase.

While the supply held by long-term holders has witnessed a 4% decrease, dropping from 14.9M to 14.29M, the supply held by short-term holders has seen a significant uptick of over 33%, rising from around 2.3M to 3.07M. This shift in the distribution of ownership reflects a balance between the two groups, a phenomenon typically seen at the initial stages of a bullish market post-halving. However, the emergence of this balance earlier than usual is attributed to the external ETF-driven demand, resulting in a nearly neutralizing market force, as indicated by 21Shares.

Moreover, the team highlighted that Bitcoin’s exchange balance has plummeted to a five-year low, standing at 2.3M. These dynamics, in combination with the reduction in the issuance of new Bitcoins following the ongoing halving, could potentially lead to a tightening of the supply.

In an endeavor to discern market sentiment concerning Bitcoin and juxtapose it with historical patterns, 21Shares employed two technical metrics: Market-Value-to-Realized-Value (MVRV) and Net Unrealized Profit and Loss (NUPL).
