Currently, the only way your identity can be tied to a crypto wallet is if you register on an exchange and then fill in your information through the Know Your Customer (KYC) section. This is the major way and about the only way.

The only other way is if you put your name as the wallet name. Some wallets have this option and some people take it. Either this or some people put out certain wallets as theirs, either for donations, payment for sales/services, or a myriad of reasons.

With these, people can know this wallet belongs to you and can know who to track if the legal or illegal need arises. Understandably, a lot of people are fine with this. But some people want the true anonymity that cryptocurrency provides.

Sometimes you might not even want this anonymity, but you might find yourself in a situation that requires it, and that right there is why this write-up is being pieced.

The Less Talked-About Way

This is less talked about because people mostly care about their own identity and not putting their information out there. They forget to worry about the fact that others put their information out there and that if they send it to that person, the fact the person can be easily identified means it can lead up to you.

So, you have to avoid being linked to this person. And it doesn't end there. What if this person's wallet doesn't have any identity linked to it but subsequently sends it to someone else with another wallet that has an identity linked to it?

That clearly means once that person is identified he can lead up to you by identifying who sent it to them and the person would then identify you. It's like there's nothing you can do, right?

Further, if there is a competent investigation, clearly you can be identified even though the cryptocurrency had been sent to up to 10 different wallets after you. So what can you do?

Simple. If you want your anonymity protected and you don't know where the crypto goes when it leaves you, then you should try to make sure the person you're sending to does not know you. That way, if he has to point you out he wouldn't be able because he doesn't know you.
