Polygon's zkEVM, the Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible with the Polygon network, has hit a pivotal mark by successfully handling more than 11 million transactions. This achievement showcases the growing acceptance and utilization of zkEVM technology within the wide Polygon community. Nonetheless, a deeper analysis of the figures brings to light complexities beyond the surface level interpretation.

A prominent Polygon information channel, known as "Today In Polygon," broadcasted the accomplishment of zkEVM processing over 11 million transactions. Notably, this surge in transactional activity coincided with a substantial increase in unique network addresses, reaching an impressive 671k. This uptick serves as a strong indicator of the expanding adoption and active engagement by users within the ecosystem.

Venturing to uncover the reasons behind this surge in utilization, an assessment by Bitcoinworld of Polygonscan's data unraveled a plausible explanation. Their examination uncovered a significant drop in zkEVM's average gas price in recent weeks. This reduction in transaction fees likely acted as a catalyst, drawing in more participants to the network and consequently driving up the overall transaction tally.

Despite this achievement, Polygon zkEVM faced a slowdown in network activity during May. Insights from Artemis revealed a decline in the number of daily active addresses on the EVM, leading to a corresponding drop in daily transaction volumes towards the month's end, raising concerns about the network's sustained growth trajectory.

Furthermore, financial metrics on the network have not been entirely favorable. Artemis's data pointed out a sharp decline in zkEVM's revenue since the start of May, adding to the hurdles encountered by the EVM in its operational journey. When compared to other well-known EVMs like Starknet and zkSync, Polygon zkEVM's performance hasn't been as striking.

For instance, despite launching just a few days apart from zkEVM, zkSync Era boasted a considerably higher count of daily active addresses. On May 2nd, while zkSync registered an impressive 256k active addresses, zkEVM had a modest 2.9k in comparison. A similar pattern emerged in transaction volumes, as zkSync processed 689k transactions on the same day, significantly eclipsing zkEVM's 10.7k transactions. Furthermore, both zkSync Era's revenue and Total Value Locked (TVL) stood substantially ahead of those of zkEVM, shedding light on the challenges faced by Polygon zkEVM in garnering traction and fostering adoption.

Nevertheless, surpassing the 11 million transaction mark had a positive ripple effect on MATIC, the native token of the Polygon network. Data from Coinstats illustrated an over 5% price hike for MATIC in the past week. At present, the altcoin was trading at $0.7173 with a market capitalization exceeding $7.2 billion, placing it as the 18th largest cryptocurrency in the market.

The price surge coincided with an upswing in bullish sentiment, with the weighted sentiment for MATIC climbing post a dip on May 2nd. Additionally, the MVRV ratio manifested an upward trend, indicating a considerable rise in investor profitability. However, analyzing IntoTheBlock's data, Bitcoinworld unveiled that only 14% of MATIC investors were experiencing profits, hinting at the untapped growth potential for the altcoin and its community of holders.
