The cryptocurrency market is poised for an altcoin season, according to RealVision's Chief Crypto Analyst, Jamie Coutts. Despite a slump in smaller-cap crypto assets since Bitcoin's all-time high in March, Coutts believes that mid and small caps will present opportunities once the market settles.

Data from Bitformance shows that the Top 200 Equal Weight Index, which assigns equal weight to cryptocurrencies regardless of market cap, fell by 33% over the past three months, while the Market Cap Index declined by 12%. This indicates weaker performance among smaller cryptocurrencies compared to those dominating the market cap index.

However, Coutts is optimistic about the potential for altcoins, particularly in the AI sector. He notes that while AI-related stocks have surged following Nvidia's impressive Q1 earnings report, AI crypto has not yet mirrored this trend. Coutts believes that AI crypto presents an opportunity, but is still working on an asset selection approach.
