Bybit recently unveiled a comprehensive analysis indicating that exchanges might exhaust their stocks of Bitcoin (BTC) in approximately nine months at the current pace of withdrawals. This forecast intertwines with the imminent Bitcoin halving event, where the issuance of new supply in each block is poised to plummet by an astounding 50%.

The study details a hastened depletion of Bitcoin reserves on centralized exchanges, highlighting that only a meager 2 million BTC is left in their coffers. Daily inflows amounting to $500 million into spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) could culminate in a daily withdrawal of 7,142 BTC from the exchange reserves, thus depleting them within the predicted nine-month timeline.

Ben Joe, the co-Founder and CEO of Bybit, expressed, “Every Bitcoin halving accentuates the narrative of Bitcoin transforming from just a currency into a rare digital asset comparable to digital gold." Joe further opined that the impending 2024 halving would propel Bitcoin into a domain of unparalleled scarcity, rendering it twice as precious as gold.

Furthermore, Bybit's report delves into the Stock-to-Flow (S2F) ratio, a metric gauging scarcity by dividing the circulating Bitcoin supply by the annual production. Following the halving event, Bitcoin's S2F ratio is projected to soar from 56 to 112, exemplifying the escalating rarity of Bitcoin in contrast to gold's S2F ratio of 60. Notably, institutional investors, particularly in the United States where the endorsement of spot Bitcoin ETFs has transpired, are strategically positioning themselves to capitalize on this growing scarcity.

In its comprehensive analysis, the report also deliberates on the anticipated ramifications post-halving, such as a probable surge in hash rate and soaring production costs for miners. This could potentially lead to a scenario where unprofitable miners might opt to liquidate their reserves, resulting in a reduction of sell-side supply to exchanges.

Nevertheless, the anticipated reduction in supply might incite a ‘fear of missing out’ sentiment among novice investors, hypothetically pushing Bitcoin’s value to unprecedented heights, surpassing previous all-time records.
