Apple has unveiled its personal intelligence system, Apple Intelligence, in collaboration with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into its ecosystem. This new system combines powerful generative models with personal context, emphasizing privacy in AI.

Apple Intelligence will offer various features across text-based apps, including proofreading, text summarization, email and message thread summarization, and notification prioritization. In phone and note apps, it will enable recording, transcribing, and summarizing audio. The system will also introduce image generation through Image Playground, support text searches of photos, provide basic image touch-ups, and organize photos into storylines. Siri will receive enhancements to better understand language and interact with other Apple and third-party apps.

The system will utilize on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for more demanding tasks. Additionally, Apple will integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, enabling users to access ChatGPT's capabilities directly within Apple’s system-wide writing tools without needing separate tools or accounts. Paid subscribers can connect their accounts for additional features. OpenAI president Greg Brockman confirmed the partnership.

Apple Intelligence and ChatGPT features are expected to roll out over the coming months, with some features arriving by 2025.
