The Arbitrum Foundation, creator of the Ethereum-based layer-2 network, aims to invigorate the cryptocurrency gaming sector by dedicating approximately $215 million worth of its native tokens, Arbitrum (ARB), over the next three years. This initiative, known as the Gaming Catalyst Program (GCP), is designed to enhance gaming interactions using Arbitrum, Orbit, and Stylus for immersive gaming experiences.

Originally proposed in March and officially approved on June 7 with over 75% of votes, the program leverages 200 million ARB tokens reserved by the Arbitrum decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) over two years to foster game development on their blockchain platform. Key supporters of this initiative include L2Beat, Wintermute, and Treasure DAO, a gaming-focused organization.

The allocated funds will primarily support publishers, with early-stage developers eligible for grants of up to 500,000 ARB (approximately $483,000). Established developers can seek investments involving tokens or equity. Remaining funds will be directed towards infrastructure projects and operational expenses to bolster ecosystem growth.

The GCP will operate with a dedicated team overseeing day-to-day activities, supported by a council comprising experts in gaming, venture capital, data analysis, and DAO governance to guide strategic initiatives. Operational costs are capped at $25 million, with any significant expenditures requiring DAO approval.
