Offchain Labs has unveiled ArbOS 20, dubbed 'Atlas,' heralding a significant reduction in transaction fees on Ethereum Layer 2, marking a pivotal development.

ArbOS Atlas is poised to transform the blockchain landscape by slashing transaction costs on Arbitrum, thereby enhancing the user experience.

With the advent of ArbOS 20, the Arbitrum ecosystem aligns with Ethereum post the Dencun upgrade, resulting in a more cost-efficient Layer 2 blockchain. This efficiency stems from storing data as "blobs" rather than expensive call data.

ArbOS integrates EVM+ and Stylus, empowering developers to execute applications and use cases more seamlessly, addressing prior challenges faced on Arbitrum. The utilization of blobs in Arbitrum chains revolutionizes transaction economics by enabling more economically transient data storage. Blobs store data off-chain, becoming inaccessible after three weeks, unlike standard call data, which is retained indefinitely.

Moreover, with EIP-6780 support in Atlas, Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and Arbitrum achieve parity in terms of security, facilitating easier implementation of EVM improvements in the future. Prysm led the way on the L1 side by releasing an EIP-4844 draft, enabling tests with actual network data and refining the overall design.

ArbOS Atlas is the result of collaboration between the Prysm client and Arbitrum Nitro teams, with consensus layer implementations playing a pivotal role in evaluating proposed solutions.
