Avail, a company spun out of Polygon, raised $43 million in a Series A funding round to develop a unified layer that addresses Web3 scalability and fragmentation issues, as announced on June 4. This brings Avail’s total funding to $75 million, including $32 million from a previous pre-seed round.

The funding round featured prominent investors like Founders Fund, Dragonfly Capital, and Cyber Fund. Co-founder Anurag Arjun stated that the funds will help tackle major Web3 challenges, such as blockchain fragmentation and limited scaling. The funding comes ahead of Avail DA's mainnet launch, which demonstrated strong performance during its testnet phase with over 118 million transactions and 140GB of data submissions.

Avail's Unification Layer aims to solve these issues by combining data availability and shared security mechanisms for better blockchain interoperability. This initiative is expected to create a secure, cost-effective, and user-friendly blockchain ecosystem. Additionally, the funding will support the development of Fusion Security, a mechanism that leverages assets from established ecosystems like Bitcoin and Ethereum for shared security.

Avail also plans to launch Avail Nexus, a zero-knowledge rollup built on Avail DA, to address cross-rollup interoperability challenges and mitigate siloed liquidity issues. Joey Krug from Founders Fund praised Avail's approach to making data availability more efficient and cost-effective, highlighting the potential for teams to create new protocols using Avail’s technology stack.
